What is Deep Tissue Massage?

Similar to a Swedish massage, deep tissue is when additional pressure is placed on the muscle to promote chronic muscle tension relief. Instead of focusing on the muscle as a whole, focus is pinpointed down to muscle fibers within the tissue, tendons, and fascia surrounding the joints.

How to Prepare for a Deep Tissue Massage

When going into a deep tissue massage session, there are steps you can take to make the experience more enjoyable. First of which is hydration. Consuming 16 to 24 ounces of water prior to your visit is beneficial to muscle function. Water helps transport nutrients to your cells and export wase from the body. Second, consider some light stretching. Stretching preps the muscles by promoting blood flow and flexibility. Third, before beginning the session let the therapist know of any issues you may be experiencing; such as injuries, stiffness, pain, posture problems, and more. By informing your therapist of these problems they will be able to mold the session around them to assist you during the session.
